Author Campaign Supports a New Generation of Scholars
The publication of primary scholarship has been increasingly threatened over the past decade. UC Press's new Authors Imprint will ensure our ability to encourage and preserve irreplaceable contributions to the world of ideas for generations to come.
—Stanley Wolpert, author of India
Last spring Director Lynne Withey met with UC Press authors, faculty, and authors outside the academy to establish an advisory committee for an Authors Imprint, a $250,000 endowed fund that will help support first books by young scholars.
The endowment was propelled by a lead gift of $29,000 from the estate of David H. Miller (1918–2006), a loyal member of UC Press's friends group whose UCLA doctoral dissertation we published in 1955. With additional gifts from the advisory committee and others, the Author Campaign is well on its way toward the $250,000 minimum to endow the imprint, which will be printed in each book supported by the fund.
Make a Gift to the Author Campaign
Donors of $1,000 and above will be recognized by name in books published in the Authors Imprint, and gifts may be paid over three years. Simply fill out the Author Campaign Pledge Form and mail it to the Voice for Great Ideas Campaign, 2120 Berkeley Way, Berkeley, CA 94704-1012.
If you would like more information, don't hesitate to contact a member of the advisory committee or UC Press Director of Development Deborah Kirshman, who can be reached at 510-643-7704 or deborah.kirshman@ucpress.edu.
