Goals & Progress

The Voice for Great Ideas Campaign's $5 million goal represents the most ambitious single fundraising effort in UC Press's history, comprising $3 million for endowment and $2 million to build our digital publishing capacity.

Campaign Goal: $5 million

Raised to Date: $5.2 million

With $5.2 million raised from over 200 individuals and foundations, we have exceeded our campaign goal of $5 million. Over the coming months, we will continue to augment our success by pursuing various program goals that have yet to be met.

Campaign Accomplishments
  • Raised over $3 million for humanities endowment to safeguard programs that advance human culture and achievement, with leads gifts of $1 million from The Ahmanson Foundation, $500,000 from Richard C. Atkinson, and $500,000 from the estate of Joan Palevsky
  • Completed prestigious $2 million National Endowment for the Humanities challenge grant
  • Established 3 new and augmented 2 existing Imprints with generous contributions from Richard C. Atkinson, The Stephen Bechtel Fund, The Fletcher Jones Foundation, Barclay and Sharon Simpson, and the Roth Family Foundation/Sukey and Gilbert Garcetti
  • Received a major grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to expand California Studies program
  • Created 10 new and augmented 5 existing Named Endowment Funds in fields from contemporary art and public affairs to environmental studies and human rights and social justice
  • Launched the Author Campaign with a $250,000 goal to establish an Authors Imprint that will support first books by young scholars, with $115,000 raised to date
  • Increased UC Press's group of supporters by 20 percent
